U.S. State Flag of Alaska

The Alaskan flag representing the U.S. State of Alaska.

The flag was designed by 13-year-old Benny Benson in 1927, who beat over 700 entries to have his flag recognised as the state flag of Alaska. It consists of eight gold stars, forming the Big Dipper and Polaris, on a dark blue field. Benny looked to the sky for the symbols he included in his design, choosing the familiar constellation he looked for every night before going to sleep at the orphanage.
